For the first time in history Australia’s workforce comprises of five generations. Generation Y, also known as millennials, will take over as the biggest working population since the baby boomers. Millennials are tech-savvy and socially conscious, and are the most tertiary qualified generation. They offer distinct skills and abilities from previous generations as well as different values when it comes to accepting a job and staying in it. Millennials in the workplace is a topic that has the world talking.
For businesses, it’s about capitalising on the strengths of a large, diverse, and highly educated portion of the population. Businesses risk negative impacts to productivity and financial performance by not understanding what it takes to attract, retain, and engage the millennial workforce.
This is why International Consultants Centre (ICC) is conducting an Australia-wide research study into the motivations, expectations, and preferences of Australian professionals aged 23-38. But ICC does not just want to collect data, we want to offer HR professionals the opportunity to develop real solutions in response to study findings.
ICC’s research study involves surveying up to 1,000 millennials (born between 1981 and 1996; 23-38 year olds) Australia-wide to understand what businesses could be doing better to not only attract and retain the younger generation, but to enable continued engagement.
The study draws on the survey as well as focus groups, interviews, and existing research to provide HR professionals with a comprehensive report addressing recruitment, retention, and engagement of the millennial generation.
ICC’s research will be presented through a series of events, offering HR professionals the opportunity to connect with a network of like minded individuals, a platform for discussion of the research findings, and an opportunity to develop practical solutions.
If you are interested in the research findings or would like to attend one of our seminars, please register your interest.
